A toothbrush for a sex toy??

The word discreet, when applied to sex toys, has come to mean toys which are of a size and appearance to join in with their owner's general personal items, like toilet articles on a trip, or in the bathroom, or among other typical items on or in your bedside stand.

Some discreet toys are made to have the strict appearance of other commonly carried items, such as lipstick, a deodorant or a tooth-brush. We have even seen an accessory which is put onto a working electric toothbrush, converting it into a personal vibrator. And there is a company in England, which was at one time converting old vibrating cellular telephones into personal vibrators.

So the goal of discreet sex toys is either to make the toy look like a familiar and common and recognizable product, or to make it innocuous in a way that its use will not be evident, such as the 'duckies' we are offering here. Our own offering is a bit low key, merely avoiding realistic or easily recognizable sex toys.

Comment on the Term 'Intimate Toys'

Quite a few people who use the Internet search for the term 'intimate toys' in place of the more common 'sex toys.'  It probably seems a little softer and perhaps more discreet in their off-line conversations. This kicked off a conversation about other possible terms that could be used instead of 'toys'.

It is interesting that when we started looking for a word which would be perceived as more adult, or more serious sounding than 'toy,' we moved away from the desired meaning. We got caught up in terms that sound like they belong in the workshop, agriculture, or surgical suite. There are many words which convey the intimacy of sex, but 'toy' seems to be the first and possibly only real choice to project the image of devices for personal pleasure.

However, as long as the word 'toys' is included, there are other possibilities to carry the meaning of sexual. An online definition of sex toys, sexual toys, and intimate toys: 'An object or device that is primarily used to facilitate human sexual pleasure', could just as well have included 'personal', 'sensual', and more.
